Pirates of the Caribbean

We took the girls to Disneyland today. We only stay for about 3 hours when we go so we hit Peter Pan, The Carousel, Pirates of the Caribbean and It's a Small World. McKenna had been on Pirates as a baby but was too young to really be aware of anything. So this was her first "scary" ride. She was very nervous but through the whole ride we would explain to her that it's all pretend, the pirates are just dolls that move, the guns are not real, etc. We'd point out the funny stuff, make light of the scary stuff, etc. She did really well. I heard the man behind us say "See, why couldn't my parents do that when I was little? They always tried to scare me more just for fun." LOL! So true. The generation of parents before us did get a kick out of scaring their kids. My Dad used to play "shark attack" when we went swimming. My sister STILL shudders at the memory yet we seemed to love the game when we were kids. I've even heard some people say their parents would tell them that a boogy man lived under the bed so that way the kids wouldn't get out of bed at night. LOL! Awful! The times have changed indeed.

I'm dying laughing right now. McKenna is stalking a cricket and it just turned around and jumped at her. She bolted yelling "Aaaaaah! He's chasing me!"

LOL Some of my fondest memories of my childhood were your dad's scare tactics. "No cartwheels. You'll break your neck and spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair." Sigh. Disneyland sounds AWESOME!

I'm so jealous that you live so close to Disneyland...it's one of my favorite places on Earth. How much fun that your girls can grow up so close to magic!
