"15 months is the BEST stage!!"

That's what I used to say to Erick every month. "3 months is the best stage!" "6 months is the best stage!" "9 months is the best stage!" But its true. Every month is just more and more fun.

McKenna does so many cute/funny/smart things now - my descriptions cannot possibly do them justice. You really have to see them in person to get the "awww" factor. But I'll try....

Today I asked her "What's that, baby?" And she said "Whazzat baby?"

Last weekend Erick taught her to "make the cute face" and she tilts her head to the side and gives you a big, cute grin.

She has been introduced to 'Nilla Wafers and Honey Maid Apple Cinnamon Sticks (both known as "cookie" to her). If she wants one she'll walk right up to the pantry and say "peeze?" (please) and once I give her one she says "tay too" (thank you).

Just before lunch time I'll ask her "Are you hungry? Are you ready for lunch?" And she'll run into the kitchen saying "ticken ticken ticken ticken" (chicken) and starts to pull on the freezer door (where we keep the chicken nuggets).

Yesterday I pulled out some green beans and she said "mmmm, beez" (beans).

All day long she's been carrying around her trick-or-treat pumpkin and saying "ticker tee" (trick or treat).

She can and will spot Dora the Explorer anywhere we go. And Dora IS everywhere (its shocking how much Dora paraphanelia there is). I think McKenna has a cosmic connection to her. She can spot the tiniest Dora 10 feet away on a paper towel and yells out "DEE DEE!" (Which we don't know how it went from Dowa to DEE DEE but it did!)

And singing! My gosh, she has suddenly realized she can sing along and it is so cute. She can sing in tune the theme to Elmo's World only HER lyrics are "Ya ya ya. Ya ya ya. Doo Doo Doo" but perfectly in tune and timing. For the Blue's Clues song she will sing the part that is supposed to be "Sit down in our thinking chair and think....think....thiiiiiiiiink." She sings gibberish for the first part but then sings "tink....tink....tiiiiiiink" and sits down while she sings it (like she’s sitting in her “thinking chair”). And for the Wiggle song, she flaps her arms and sings "Quack quack quack quack quack doo doo doo doo doo" (instead of cock-a-doodle-doo).

So her personality is just such a joy to watch develop. We have so much fun watching everything she does and every single day we are baffled at what she knows and understands.

Some people tell us that we need to start potty-training because she can tell us when she's gone to the bathroom and she'll get a diaper for us. Others tell us it’s too soon. We haven't decided if we're ready to tackle that yet but we do know that we'll take it slow because she hates sitting on her training potty. She's interested in playing with it but hates sitting on it. So we know we’ll want to take it slowly.

She has become a clockwork sleeper (for the most part). An hour and a half nap in the morning and an hour and a half nap in the afternoon. Twelve hours sleep at night. Though everytime I actually verbalize what a great sleeper she is, she decides to trick me and change it up.

She’s definitely opinionated about her foods. Absolutely no sauce or dips for her. Even if I take a ravioli and rinse it, she won’t eat it like she will the raviolis that are sauceless. Somehow she knows. She eats pretty much any fruit or veggie. She loves chicken nuggets and any sauceless ravioli. Pancakes or blueberry or pumpkin bread are favorites. But she won’t eat anything that I have to feed her and she’s still learning to use a fork so we’re pretty much just feeding her anything that she can feed herself with her fingers.

She has her 15-month well-baby appointment on November 3. I’ll update the journal afterward.

Until then, here are some of my favorite pics from the past few weeks:

Hey Shannon, it's April Hunt! I was reading your mommy blog, and realized that the little girl that I am a nanny for is the same exact age as McKenna. They have the same birthday. Libbie is the little girl's name that I take care of. She is just adorable, and does the cute faces as well. McKenna's pictures are amazing! She is absolutely adorable! I don't have any pictures of Libbie yet, but hope to have some soon!

Hope you guys are doing well!

take care,
April

Sweet Lord, Shannon! Kenna continues to get even more cute! I'm afraid eventually that face will tear open a hole in the space-time continuum! Ok maybe not..

Good show Shannon. Kenna gets my vote for President.

Thanks Slip! McKenna accepts your nomination and plans to run in 2008. Republican of course. ; )
